Tamandaré-class frigate receives unprecedented shock resistance certification

The Tamandaré-class frigate (F200), the first vessel of its class built in Brazil for the Brazilian Navy, has received a unique SHOCK class notation from the Norwegian classification society DNV. This certification is the first of its kind for a ship based on a European-developed design, specifically the TKMS MEKO A100MB project.

The certification was granted following an analysis of test reports and shock calculations for critical components and essential systems. These components were selected because their failure could lead to the loss of primary functions or significantly reduce the vessel's operational capacity and safety. The evaluation adhered to the DNV NAVAL Pt. 3 Ch. 1 standard and the TKMS Shock Standard.

The vessel is being produced by Águas Azuis, a consortium consisting of TKMS, Embraer Defesa & Segurança, and Atech. The Tamandaré-class program, managed by Emgepron, includes the construction of four frigates in Itajaí, Brazil. The certificate was formally presented to TKMS during the SMM naval industry fair in Hamburg, Germany.
