Lilli Tagger advances to US Open second round

At the US Open, 18-year-old Austrian Lilli Tagger advanced to the second round after defeating Germany’s top-ranked player Tamara Korpatsch with a score of 6:0, 7:6(4). Despite a comeback attempt in the second set where Korpatsch won five consecutive games, Tagger secured the victory after 1 hour and 56 minutes.

Korpatsch, who recently entered the top 50 of the world rankings, attributed her performance to physical struggles, noting she felt unwell with a sore throat and general fatigue prior to the match.

Other results from the tournament include Austrian Jurij Rodionov advancing to the second round after defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. However, Austrian Sinja Kraus was eliminated in the first round following a loss to seventh seed Karolina Muchova.
