Tamara Lich denied request for international travel
An Ontario judge has denied a request from Tamara Lich, a prominent organizer of the 2022 “Freedom Convoy” protest, to travel internationally. Lich is currently serving a 12-month house arrest sentence after being convicted of mischief for her role in the month-long blockade of downtown Ottawa.
Lich had applied for permission to travel abroad to conduct work for Rebel News, which included an interview in Arizona for a documentary, a book tour, and a Caribbean cruise fundraiser. Justice Heather Perkins-McVey ruled that while Lich has complied with her sentence conditions thus far, granting international travel would undermine the “punitive and denunciatory character” of the sentence. The judge also noted concerns regarding the court’s ability to enforce jurisdiction and conditions if Lich were to travel outside the country.
