Tamara Lunger's Mongolia camel trek inspires new book

Italian alpinist Tamara Lunger, who became the youngest woman to summit Lhotse and later climbed K2, lost her climbing partner Juan Pablo Mohr in the 2021 winter K2 tragedy. Seeking a new direction, she walked nearly 2,000 km across the Mongolian steppe with a camel named Tùje, a journey she says helped her overcome fear and reconnect with nature.

The experience formed the basis of her memoir Una donna che cammina con il vento (“A Woman Who Walks with the Wind”), published by Rizzoli in April 2026. Lunger presented the book at a special event in Traversella, Italy, where she discussed how the trek transformed her outlook on life and mountaineering.
