Tamaulipas addresses rising school bullying and student violence

School bullying has emerged as a significant social issue in Tamaulipas, involving physical, psychological, and exclusionary violence. Data from the federal Ministry of Health, compiled by the Network for the Rights of Children in Mexico, indicates that during 2025, more than 40 minors in the state required hospitalization or medical attention due to school-related aggressions.

Reports of violence are most concentrated in highly populated urban areas, including Tampico, Reynosa, Matamoros, and Ciudad Victoria. In response, authorities have utilized the ‘Protocols for Prevention, Detection, and Action in Cases of Violence against Girls, Boys, and Adolescents in the School Environment.’ Originally established in 2016 and updated in 2026, these guidelines aim to provide schools with procedures for managing violence before it escalates, ensuring the physical and psychological integrity of students.
