Tamaulipas Attracts $5.8 bn in New Projects as Football Boosts Local Sales

The state of Tamaulipas, led by Secretary of Economy Ninfa Cantú Deándar, signed an agreement with the Council of Business Institutions of Southern Tamaulipas (CIEST) to promote investment in the region. The partnership highlighted 42 confirmed projects worth more than $5.8 billion in Altamira, Tampico and Ciudad Madero, projected to create 8,192 jobs and strengthen the area’s logistics, industrial capacity and market connectivity.

Separately, the local chamber of commerce (CANACO) in Tampico warned that the upcoming Mexico‑South Africa football match should not disrupt weekday business operations, while noting that the tournament could lift sales for food, beverage and entertainment venues by 35‑40 percent. Business leaders see the event as an opportunity to run promotions and capture additional consumer spending.
