Tamaulipas Auditoría Superior adjusts municipal audit program but keeps financial audits

The Superior Auditing Office of Tamaulipas revised its 2026 audit schedule, removing nine municipalities – Matamoros, Victoria, Tampico, Altamira, Ciudad Madero, Jaumave, Tula, Soto la Marina and San Carlos – from performance audits. Auditor‑general Francisco Noriega Orozco clarified that financial audits of these municipalities’ public accounts will continue, stating, “Las auditorías financieras de las cuentas públicas de estos nueve municipios van.” He added that scrutiny of spending, revenue and compliance “no es negociable.”

The adjustment was driven by the need to prioritize pending financial audits from previous years, with roughly a hundred reports from 2021‑2022 still awaiting resolution due to legal suspensions. By reallocating resources to these outstanding audits, the office intends to maintain rigorous oversight of public funds while postponing new performance evaluations.

Noriega urged citizens to retain confidence in the fiscal supervision process, emphasizing that the oversight of resource management will proceed with the same rigor as before.
