Tamaulipas Governor investigates death of child during Matamoros operation

Six people died during a wave of violence in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, following a federal operation to capture Axel Alfredo Cárdenas Rodríguez, identified as a high-ranking member of the Los Ciclones criminal faction.

Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya confirmed that one of the victims was a seven-year-old girl who died from a gunshot wound. Authorities are investigating whether the fatal shot originated from a State Guard helicopter participating in the security operations. The girl's mother was also injured in the incident.

The other five fatalities occurred in two separate traffic accidents. These accidents were caused when vehicles struck heavy trucks and cargo units that had been set on fire by criminal groups to block roads across at least eight municipalities.

In response to the unrest, the Mexican Army deployed 450 additional personnel to reinforce security in the region. Governor Villarreal stated that there will be no cover-ups and that investigations will proceed to establish legal responsibilities.
