Tamaulipas deploys 20 ambulances for summer road‑safety operation

The health ministry of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas has activated a summer‑time emergency operation for 2026, positioning 20 ambulances from the Centro Regulador de Urgencias Médicas (CRUM) and establishing permanent service bases roughly every 100 kilometres along the most accident‑prone highways, such as the Victoria‑Monterrey and Victoria‑Zaragoza corridors. The effort, directed by health secretary Ricardo Gerardo Guerrero Morales and general director Carlos González Castro, is coordinated with Protección Civil, the Red Cross, local hospitals and, from July onward, the State Traffic agency, the Navy, the Defense Secretariat, the National Guard and the State Guard.

Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya has signed agreements with municipalities to keep the bases operational 24 hours a day, anticipating a possible 30 % rise in emergency‑service demand during the extended vacation period. Officials expect a sharp increase in vehicular traffic on routes toward the U.S. border, popular beach destinations and major cities such as Monterrey, Matamoros, Altamira, Ciudad Madero and Tampico. Drivers are urged to avoid fatigue, refrain from drinking while driving, wear seatbelts, secure child seats and inspect their vehicles before departure.
