Tamaulipas braces for intense rains as tropical disturbance looms

State civil protection officials in Tamaulipas warned that heavy rainfall is expected over the next several days, not from a cyclone but from saturated soils and a low‑probability tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico. The coordinator of the state's Protection Civil, Luis Gerardo González de la Fuente, said “there is a 10 percent probability of a depression forming,” and emphasized that ground conditions could cause rapid runoff, water pooling and impassable streets, especially in the central, southern, canyon and highland zones.

Subdirector Rafael Chirinos Aguilar of the Regional Civil Protection Center reported recent thunderstorms delivering up to 45 mm of rain and confirmed continuous monitoring of the system together with Conagua. Authorities are coordinating monitoring efforts and have reinforced checks on waterways, drains and flood‑prone areas.

Residents were urged to rely only on official information channels, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain periods, and report emergencies to 911 to prevent injuries or fatalities.
