Tamaulipas classifies animal abandonment as a crime

In the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, abandoning animals is classified as a criminal offense under current state legislation. According to the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Tamaulipas (FGJT), leaving animals in a state of helplessness, without food, or exposed to physical risks can constitute acts of cruelty, torture, or deprivation of life.
