Tamaulipas legislators approve education, health and safety reforms

The Congress of Tamaulipas approved several bills aimed at strengthening public welfare. Deputies Mayra Benavides Villafranca and Juan Carlos Zertuche passed a proposal to embed values such as respect, inclusion and a culture of peace into school curricula. A separate unanimous motion, championed by Morena deputy Francisca Castro Armenta, seeks to add article 312 Bis to the General Health Law to prohibit the online promotion of cosmetic surgeries, invasive procedures and extreme diets by persons without medical certification. The measure also calls for administrative sanctions against violators.

Senator Juanita Guerra Mena introduced an initiative urging federal and state cyber‑police to monitor and block the sale of signal‑jamming devices that impede GPS tracking of cargo trucks, a practice linked to cargo‑theft groups. Additionally, deputy Marcelo Abundiz Ramírez presented a point of agreement to incorporate urban‑sport infrastructure—skateboarding, calisthenics, and other recreational facilities—into new public‑space planning to promote healthy lifestyles among youth.
