Tamaulipas Congress Proposes Digital Auctions for State Assets

State legislators in Tamaulipas are considering a reform to modernize the sale of seized, abandoned or state‑administered assets. Deputy Francisca Castro Armenta has introduced a bill to add article 18 Bis to the Law for the Administration of Secured, Seized or Abandoned State Property, allowing the use of electronic platforms alongside traditional on‑site auctions. The change aims to broaden participation, improve competition among buyers and raise the recovery value of vehicles, merchandise, land and housing that the state currently disposes of.

Proponents argue that the existing in‑person auction system limits bidders to those who can travel to the venue, reducing both competition and revenue while incurring extra costs for transport, storage and display of the assets. By moving part of the process online, the proposal seeks to reduce those expenses, increase transparency and make the proceedings accessible to a larger pool of potential purchasers. The draft has been forwarded to the permanent commission of the Tamaulipas Congress for further review.
