Tamaulipas Congress to maintain state control of Comapa Río Bravo

The Tamaulipas State Congress is set to discuss a proposal to maintain state government control over the Municipal Water and Sewage Commission (Comapa) in Río Bravo. The Permanent Deputation of the Congress has endorsed the initiative to keep the provision of water, drainage, sewage, and wastewater treatment services under state administration rather than transferring management to the local municipal government.

Humberto Prieto Herrera, president of the Congress Governing Board, stated that the current scheme has shown results and maintains healthy finances. He argued that the municipality of Río Bravo currently lacks the administrative, operational, and human resource capacity required to manage the commission without risking the water supply. This decision follows a request made in January by Río Bravo Mayor Miguel Ángel Almaraz Maldonado to reintegrate the organism into the local City Council.

The legislative session, scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, will also address various other reforms, including changes to livestock and rural development laws, traffic regulations, and animal protection laws.
