Tamaulipas Cyber Guard warns of school-related online scams

The Tamaulipas State Cyber Guard, through the State Public Security Secretariat, has issued warnings to the public regarding increased cybercrime risks during the upcoming 2026-2027 school season. Authorities highlighted several common fraudulent practices, including the impersonation of educational institutions, fake websites selling school uniforms and supplies, and fraudulent scholarship or social program offers.

To prevent cybercrime, officials recommend validating all information directly with educational institutions and ensuring online purchases are made through secure sites that use 'https://' and display a padlock icon in the browser. Consumers are also advised to compare prices and remain skeptical of excessive discounts.

Regarding social programs and educational credits, the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection advises against paying for registration in beneficiary registries or sharing personal identification documents without verifying site authenticity. For educational loans, citizens are urged not to make decisions based on urgency, to avoid depositing money to secure resources, and to verify that lenders are registered with CONDUSEF.
