Tamaulipas education officials announce scholarship distribution and mobile phone restrictions

The Tamaulipas Secretary of Education, Miguel Ángel Valdez García, has initiated the distribution of “Avanza” Transformation Scholarships for students in private schools within the Altamira and Ciudad Madero municipalities. The program, which covers the 2026-2027 school year, requires participating private institutions with official validity of studies (RVOE) to provide scholarships ranging from 20 to 80 percent for enrollment and tuition fees to 5 percent of their student population.

Additionally, education officials reported widespread parental support for a national measure restricting the use of mobile phones in schools. According to surveys conducted by the Secretary of Education, 98 percent of parents in the state support the decision to prevent students from bringing cell phones to school. Valdez García stated the measure aims to combat issues such as inattention, anxiety, and depression caused by excessive device use, noting that the policy is supported by national leadership and state authorities to improve the learning environment.
