Tamaulipas ensures water supply amid drought with $560 million infrastructure investment

State officials say water supply will be guaranteed for all areas of Tamaulipas through September despite an expected three‑month dry season, citing June rains that raised reservoir levels. The north‑state reservoirs of Falcón and La Amistad now hold between 215 and 220 million cubic metres, enough to serve the municipalities of Tampico, Madero and Altamira.

The state has allocated more than 560 million pesos to hydraulic infrastructure over the past year, making water the second‑largest budget item. Projects include a sanitary sewer collector in Reynosa, the first phase of expanding the Duport drinking‑water plant in Altamira, a second phase for the Ciudad Victoria plant, and construction of a second aqueduct line. Officials describe the spending as a strategic move to secure sustainable water access for current and future needs.
