Tamaulipas environmental agency regularizes material banks and collects green taxes
The Tamaulipas Secretariat of Urban Development and Environment (SEDUMA) has launched a process to regularize stone material extraction sites across the state. Karl Heinz Becker Hernández, head of the agency, reported that 11 out of 16 material banks are currently undergoing regularization to ensure they possess valid environmental impact authorizations and extraction permits. This initiative aims to address historical management gaps and prepare for increased demand from upcoming federal, state, and municipal infrastructure projects.
Additionally, the state has collected approximately 120 million pesos in green taxes during 2026, funds intended to mitigate climate change-related issues. Environmental efforts also include the sanitation of the San Marcos River in Ciudad Victoria to improve water flow capacity and the removal of approximately 1,000 tons of waste in Victoria and 300 tons in the La Escondida lagoon in Reynosa.
