Tamaulipas SEDUMA clears illegal dumps to avert floods, health risks and fires

The Secretariat of Urban Development and the Environment (SEDUMA) in Tamaulipas, together with the Urban and Environmental Prosecutor's Office and private firms under compensatory measures, removed accumulated waste from several sites in the Vamos colonia of Ciudad Victoria. The cleanup aimed to stop rainwater from carrying trash into drains, which could cause street flooding, road damage, and infrastructure blockage. Open‑air rubbish also posed public‑health threats by attracting disease‑carrying fauna, producing foul odors and creating possible infection foci, while flammable materials heightened fire risk during dry periods. SEDUMA Secretary Karl Heinz Becker Hernández said the operation is part of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya’s “humanist” strategy to listen to citizens and address problems that directly affect their wellbeing. The coordinated effort is intended to protect family health, preserve property and improve safety for residents of the affected neighborhood.
