Tamaulipas expands use of public parks for sports and mental health

Authorities in Tamaulipas are utilizing public parks and community centers to address social and mental health needs. In Victoria, Mayor Eduardo Gattas inaugurated the rehabilitated ‘Carlos Benavides Peña’ park at 31 Morelos, which hosted the opening of the State Women's Softball Championship.

State official Fernando González Soto, director of Parks, Centers, and Units, reported that the state's 74 parks, 15 centers, and 15 units are serving as vital hubs for adolescents. These spaces provide sports activities alongside 24-hour psychological support to address rising socio-emotional issues among youth aged 13 to 16. In addition to sports, these centers offer educational services such as English classes, primary education, nutrition, and fitness programs to promote social integration and risk prevention.
