Tamaulipas grapples with water scarcity and scheduled supply halt

Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya of Tamaulipas announced the creation of a new Secretariat of Hydraulic Resources to confront severe drought in the state's arid region known as the "Siberia Tamaulipeca." The agency will work with the federal National Water Commission (CONAGUO) to develop infrastructure, improve water distribution, promote reuse, and protect basins across the 43 municipalities, especially those most exposed such as Miquihuana, Bustamante, Palmillas, Tula, Jaumave, Guerrero and Mier.

In the state capital, Ciudad Victoria, the municipal water utility COMAPA warned that on Tuesday, 7 July, water service will be temporarily suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. due to scheduled maintenance on the electric grid by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). The work will affect key pumping stations and could cause low pressure or a total outage. Residents were urged to store clean water, use it sparingly, and reuse water where possible until service resumes.
