Tamaulipas health officials restructure to address cancer care lag

The Tamaulipas Ministry of Health is implementing administrative and operational changes to address significant delays in public health indicators. Ricardo Gerardo Guerrero Morales, the Secretary of Health, acknowledged that the state previously ranked 31st out of 32 Mexican entities regarding care for female cancer.

Following instructions from Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya, the restructuring targets three key areas: public health, sexual violence, equity, and gender-based care. The goal is to improve prevention, detection, and treatment protocols to move the state toward leading national rankings.

Guerrero Morales defended recent personnel appointments, rejecting claims that new officials lack necessary expertise. He stated that the appointees possess professional experience at both state and federal levels and that the reshuffle is intended to strengthen operational teams and correct procedural deficiencies.
