Tamaulipas Education Secretariat announces new initiatives and infrastructure
The Tamaulipas Education Secretariat (SET) has launched several initiatives to support the state's educational system. In Altamira and Madero, the SET distributed “Avanza” transformation scholarships to students in private schools, covering between 20 and 80 percent of enrollment and tuition costs for eligible students.
To expand educational access, the SET has broken ground on the Margarita Maza high school in Altamira, which is expected to serve over 400 students by June 2026. This is part of a larger plan to establish six new Margarita Maza high schools across various municipalities, including Tampico, Matamoros, and Reynosa, to accommodate growing demographic demands.
Additionally, the SET is implementing new pedagogical strategies through the “Tamaulipas Aprende 2026” program. This initiative focuses on analyzing assessment instruments to improve fundamental learning and classroom intervention for basic education students. The department is also working to strengthen peace-building measures in approximately 6,400 basic education schools following reports of false threats and prank calls.
