Tamaulipas invests 450 million pesos in school upgrades, raises credit rating

The government of Tamaulipas will allocate about 450 million pesos in 2026 to rehabilitate basic‑education schools across 30 municipalities. The work will focus on painting, bathroom repairs, roof work, waterproofing, electrical and water installations, with 150‑180 million pesos already contracted to start the projects. The upgrades aim to improve safety and functionality for thousands of students in the state’s more than 3,000 schools.

At the same time, Tamaulipas has upgraded its sovereign credit rating, moving from a B rating to A+ and receiving the highest AAA rating from Moody’s, HR Ratings and Verum. The improved rating is expected to lower borrowing costs, already saving the state 30‑50 million pesos this year. A planned renegotiation of roughly 2.7 billion pesos of debt seeks to cut the interest rate from 0.43 % to below 0.33 %, which could generate additional savings of over 70 million pesos.
