Tamaulipas provides dual nationality certificates to binational children

The Government of Tamaulipas is expanding efforts to provide legal certainty to binational families through the distribution of dual nationality certificates. In recent sessions held in Río Bravo and Valle Hermoso, 330 certificates were delivered to children born in the United States to parents from Tamaulipas.

Juan José Rodríguez Alvarado, director of the Tamaulipas Migrant Institute (ITM), reported that over 3,000 minors have already received certification, with another 1,000 currently in process. The program aims to address a significant backlog, as an estimated 30,000 minors born in the United States living in Tamaulipas have yet to fully regularize their rights.

The initiative provides free services to eliminate economic barriers, noting that private processing can cost between 30,000 and 50,000 pesos. Securing Mexican nationality allows these minors to access essential services, including healthcare, education, social programs, and official identification, ensuring they can exercise their rights equally in both Mexico and the United States.
