Tamaulipas Labor Secretary Gerardo Illoldi Reinforces Federal Role in Ley Silla Enforcement

State Labor Secretary Gerardo Illoldi Reyes said the Tamaulipas Secretariat of Labor is not negligent for not sanctioning firms that violate the federal Ley Silla, because the authority to impose fines lies entirely with the federal Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare. He noted that the state office has upgraded its inspection capacity, creating a General Inspection Directorate with dedicated audit units, but its role is to support compliance when the federal agency requests assistance.

Illoldi emphasized that the law, which took effect on 17 June 2025 and required employers to provide ergonomic chairs, is a federal mandate tied to occupational safety and health. The grace period ended last December, and while many businesses remain non‑compliant, the state will cooperate on inspections if asked by federal authorities.
