Tamaulipas implements new economic and industrial strategies

The state of Tamaulipas is implementing several economic and industrial initiatives aimed at strengthening local production and market access. Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya has launched a new model for the sorghum sector, which accounts for approximately 47 percent of Mexico's national production. This strategy focuses on transforming white sorghum into value-added products, such as nixtamalized flour for human consumption, to increase income for local farmers.

In the commercial sector, the Secretary of Economy, Ninfa Cantú Deándar, announced that 11 local companies from municipalities including Ciudad Victoria, Tampico, and Nuevo Laredo have qualified to participate in the SuperISSSTE 2026 Virtual Supplier Fair. These businesses, which produce goods ranging from food items like honey and cheese to hygiene products, are seeking to expand their market reach through new commercial channels.

Additionally, the state government is addressing energy and labor concerns. The Secretary of Energy Development, Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez, stated that any potential use of hydraulic fracturing in the region would require community consent and the use of saltwater to protect freshwater resources. Meanwhile, the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Gerardo Illoldi Reyes, reported that the state maintains strict oversight to prevent child labor in the maquiladora industry, noting no recent official records of child employment in that sector.
