Tamaulipas lawmakers push for stricter enforcement of workplace safety and profit‑sharing laws

Deputy Gabriela Regalado, president of the Labor Commission in the Tamaulipas state Congress, urged the state labor authority to enforce the “Ley Silla.” The law, recently amended to give the Secretariat of Labor sanction power, requires employers such as gas stations and retail stores to provide chairs and regular rest periods for workers. Regalado said the law is being ignored and announced a meeting with Labor Secretary Luis Gerardo to assess implementation.

In a related directive, Labor Secretary Luis Gerardo called on employers to pay profit‑sharing bonuses to workers on schedule, warning that firms that miss the legal deadline could face federal labor sanctions. Both actions aim to strengthen compliance with labor rights for workers across Tamaulipas.
