Tamaulipas legislators propose constitutional overhaul and stricter parental‑authority rules

Deputy Adrián Cruz Martínez of the Morena party introduced a constitutional amendment to Article 1 of the Tamaulipas state constitution, demanding an explicit mandate for citizen participation in all levels of government decision‑making. He stressed the proposal is not a political simulation but a move to embed transparency, co‑responsibility and democratic governance.

Separately, the Tamaulipas Congress began reviewing a bill presented by Deputy Úrsula Patricia Salazar Mojica that would strip parental authority from parents or guardians who subject children to forced begging, illegal labor, sexual abuse or other severe exploitation. The initiative seeks to expand the civil code’s grounds for revoking custody, aiming to strengthen protections for minors.

Both measures reflect a broader push within the state legislature to reform governance structures and enhance protections for vulnerable populations.
