Tamaulipas loses two professional football clubs as Apertura 2026 season looms

Gavilanes de Matamoros and Club Calor de Reynosa announced the suspension of all their sports projects, citing unsustainable finances. Their withdrawal from Liga Premier and Liga TDP leaves the border region of Tamaulipas without professional football representation.

The Liga BBVA Expansión MX released the Apertura 2026 calendar, featuring 16 teams that will compete from 24 July to 1 November. The schedule highlights Correcaminos of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas, which will play fifteen matches across the season.
