Tamaulipas municipalities seek lower electricity tariffs
Up to 14 municipalities in Tamaulipas may soon benefit from lower domestic electricity tariffs following technical reviews between state and federal authorities. The proposal aims to reclassify electricity rates through the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) based on historical temperature data.
Walter Julián Ángel Jiménez, the Secretary of Energy Development for Tamaulipas, stated that the process is currently in a technical review stage. The Comisión Nacional del Agua (Conagua) must validate temperature records to determine which localities meet the necessary criteria. To qualify, a municipality must have recorded temperatures above a specific reference parameter for at least three months during three of the last five years.
If approved, these municipalities would join five others that have already received tariff reclassifications, potentially bringing the total number of benefited municipalities in Tamaulipas to 19.
