Mexico advances water management through training and irrigation technology

In Tamaulipas, the Secretaría de Recursos Hidráulicos para el Desarrollo Social and CONAGUA held training sessions for mayors and water operators. The workshops focused on accessing federal programs like PROAGUA and PEAS, updating Municipal Integral Plans, and complying with fiscal and measurement obligations for national water volumes.

In Aguascalientes, Governor Tere Jiménez announced that Irrigation District 001 is nearing completion as the country’s first fully technified irrigation district. Since 2022, over 455 million pesos have been invested in modernizing the district, which has operated since 1926. The project aims to guarantee irrigation for over 6,000 hectares, benefiting 1,700 producers by improving water efficiency.

Meanwhile, in Tamaulipas, municipal water agencies (Comapas) are facing financial crises due to high delinquency rates, with some areas reporting up to 70% non-payment. Legislators are working with Banobras to implement training and new collection mechanisms to ensure service sustainability.
