Gloria Garza Jiménez and César Verástegui win PAN leadership in Tamaulipas

Gloria Garza Jiménez and César "Truko" Verástegui secured the internal election of the State Steering Committee of the National Action Party (PAN) in Tamaulipas. 3,704 PAN members voted for their ticket, outpacing the rival list of Omeheira López Reyna and Francisco Garza de Coss, which received 1,226 votes; 24 votes were null. The margin of victory was 2,478 votes out of a total of 4,930 participants.

The winning duo proclaimed the result "contundente" (overwhelming) and thanked the militants for their support. The PAN state committee announced that the final validation of the results will be performed by the party’s National Electoral Processes Commission, and the official declaration remains pending.

The election follows months of internal disputes, including challenges to candidate eligibility and allegations of vote‑buying and links to criminal organizations. Commentators note that the PAN in Tamaulipas has been weakened after losing the governorship and most municipalities, and the new leadership inherits a party with reduced militancy and credibility.

Morena’s state council president, Rómulo Pérez, downplayed the PAN’s relevance in the run‑up to the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the party’s internal struggle will not affect Morena’s territorial consolidation.
