Tamaulipas joins Blitz Monarca 2026 to protect Monarch butterfly habitat

The government of Tamaulipas, through the Commission of Parks and Biodiversity (CPBT), participated in the Blitz Monarca 2026, an international initiative focused on monitoring and conserving the habitat of the Monarch butterfly.

Located at the El Cielo Biosphere Ecological Park in Gómez Farías, the initiative included workshops and educational activities for children, youth, and adults. Participants used educational materials from the Monarch Joint Venture to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and the importance of its migratory route across Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The program also involved field activities, such as hikes through local trails, to identify flora and fauna that provide food and shelter for pollinators. Luis Eduardo García Reyes, Executive Vocal of the CPBT, emphasized the importance of environmental education and citizen science in protecting the state's natural heritage.
