Tamaulipas plans 40 billion peso Corredor del Golfo Norte highway

The government of Tamaulipas and the Mexican federal government are planning the construction of the Corredor del Golfo Norte, a highway project with an estimated investment of nearly 40 billion pesos. The project spans 503 kilometers and is designed to connect the southern, central, and northern regions of the state to improve the transport of goods and regional mobility.

The infrastructure plan includes the construction of 9 kilometers of new four-lane roadway, while the remaining 494 kilometers will involve the expansion and modernization of existing infrastructure. The route is expected to begin at Puente Tampico II, continue through the bypass connecting to Estación Manuel, proceed through Zaragoza and Ciudad Victoria, and extend through the El Tejón junction to Reynosa.

Pedro Cepeda Anaya, the Secretary of Public Works, stated that the bidding process is underway, with a decision expected by the end of 2026. The corridor will allow free circulation for light traffic, aiming to reduce travel times, improve road safety, and strengthen commercial activities linked to the northern border.
