Tamaulipas political parties begin organizing for 2027 elections
Political parties in Tamaulipas are beginning to organize for the 2027 electoral process. The PAN (Partido Acción Nacional) has announced it possesses competitive and clean profiles for mayoral and legislative candidacies across all 43 municipalities in the state. Party leadership, including Gloria Garza Jiménez and César Verástegui Ostos, emphasized that they are prioritizing large cities such as Tampico, Reynosa, and Nuevo Laredo, which represent approximately 85 percent of the vote.
Meanwhile, Morena is preparing its internal processes, with indications that women may lead four of the eight most electorally significant municipalities, including Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Tampico, and Altamira. The Morena-PT-Verde coalition will also need to negotiate space distribution among its members.
In a critique of the current political landscape, PAN state president Gloria Garza Jiménez accused Movimiento Ciudadano of acting to divide the opposition rather than providing an authentic alternative to the Morena government. This sentiment was echoed by PRI state leader Bruno Díaz Lara, who noted the importance of strengthening internal party identity before pursuing formal coalitions.
