Tamaulipas anticipates 4.3 million summer tourists as beaches earn safety certifications
The state of Tamaulipas expects an influx of 4.3 million visitors during the summer vacation period from 11 July to 30 August, a 2.5 % increase over the previous year. The tourism secretary, Benjamin Hernández Rodríguez, said the projected economic impact exceeds 4 billion pesos, with the southern coastal zone drawing about 2.2 million of those guests. Major beach destinations such as Playa Miramar, Barra del Tordo, La Pesca and Bagdad are highlighted, and beach‑order committees have been installed to manage recreation, vehicle zones and visitor safety.
The state health commission (COEPRIS) tested roughly 300 water samples before the season, confirming the beaches meet sanitary standards and pose no health risk. Playa Miramar retains the international Blue Flag certification, meeting strict criteria for water quality, safety, environmental education and accessibility. The certification is intended to boost confidence among tourists and support local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, transport services and informal vendors.
In the capital, Ciudad Victoria, officials project more than 80 000 visitors and an economic boost of over 74 million pesos, citing new infrastructure and security measures. The combined tourism push aims to sustain growth while preserving coastal environments.
