Tamaulipas prosecutors seek extradition of former governor Cabeza de Vaca

The Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Fight Against Corruption of Tamaulipas has confirmed that an arrest warrant is active for former governor Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca. Prosecutor Norberto Andrés García Repper Fávila stated that the former official is a fugitive from justice and that authorities are working with the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) to manage extradition procedures.

Due to Cabeza de Vaca's potential dual citizenship, the prosecutor noted that requests for international cooperation with the United States will require meticulous adherence to legal requirements. Recent information suggests the former governor may be located near the border, necessitating international collaboration for his potential detention.

Additionally, authorities are actively searching for Enrique Rivas Cuéllar, the former mayor of Nuevo Laredo. The prosecutor confirmed a valid arrest warrant exists for Rivas Cuéllar and that efforts are underway to request assistance from United States authorities regarding his whereabouts.
