Tamaulipas ramps up health, tourism and education ahead of World Cup 2026

The state health agency COEPRIS has intensified sanitary surveillance at hotels, restaurants, bus terminals, airports and ports ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, checking food safety, water, ice production and medical facilities. Only two incidents involving clembuterol‑contaminated products were found and removed, and no significant health risks have been reported.

Tamaulipas surpassed the national vaccination target, delivering 231,004 doses (106.4% of the goal) and remaining free of measles in 2026. Coverage of the newly added respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine also exceeded expectations, protecting infants and pregnant women.

Based on the results of the "Tamaulipas Aprende" assessment, the education secretariat will provide three‑day, subject‑specific training for teachers who performed poorly in mathematics and Spanish, aiming to improve learning outcomes.

Tourism officials forecast more than 4.3 million visitors this summer, with average hotel occupancy above 58% and peak weekend rates over 80% at key beaches. The influx is expected to generate economic activity exceeding 4 billion pesos, especially in the Tampico‑Madero‑Altamira corridor and resort towns such as Playa Miramar.
