Gloria Garza Jiménez wins PAN Tamaulipas internal election

The National Action Party (PAN) in the state of Tamaulipas held its internal election on Sunday, 5 July, to choose a new state committee for the 2026‑2027 term. About 9,500 party militants were on the roll, with roughly half casting ballots at municipal committee polling stations.

Two slates competed: Gloria Garza Jiménez with César Verástegui Ostos, and a rival list headed by Omeirah López Reyna together with Francisco Javier Garza de Coss. Preliminary counts showed Garza Jiménez leading by a margin of roughly three to one, winning overwhelmingly in most municipalities – for example 336‑2 in Xicoténcatl, 333‑18 in El Mante, and 295‑95 in Ciudad Victoria. Only Llera and Bustamante showed a slight edge for the López Reyna slate.

The PAN’s Justice Commission dismissed López Reyna’s challenge to the registration of the Garza Jiménez ticket, confirming the validity of the internal process. Following the preliminary results, Garza Jiménez declared herself the virtual winner and pledged to rebuild party unity and prepare for the 2027 general elections. The final official tally will be validated by the State Electoral Processes Commission and the national permanent commission.
