Tamaulipas reports economic growth and major infrastructure investment
Tamaulipas is experiencing significant economic and social developments under the administration of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya. The state reported a 5.3 percent growth in the second quarter of 2026, supported by over 175 confirmed investment projects totaling more than 21 billion dollars. Key industrial clusters are advancing in the electrical-electronic, automotive, energy, IT, and agro-industrial sectors.
The labor market shows stability with 693,000 formal jobs registered with the IMSS. In the public works sector, over 24 billion pesos have been invested across 43 municipalities to improve infrastructure, including highways and hospitals. Social programs are also active, providing food packages to 300,000 families and expanding community health clinics.
However, challenges remain. Approximately 300 companies are in legal disputes with the SAT and IMSS over alleged unjustified charges. Additionally, the state is seeking 48 million pesos from DiDi for unpaid transportation taxes. In Matamoros, recent heavy rains have disrupted school activities, prompting local authorities to recommend remote learning for certain areas.
