Dominican Republic reports 314 voluntary surrenders of wanted individuals
Dominican Republic's Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, reported that 314 individuals wanted by the justice system voluntarily surrendered to authorities between August 17 and October 16, 2026. The group includes 76 people sought for robbery and assault, 71 for homicide, and 49 for drug trafficking, with others linked to violence, sexual offenses, and vehicle theft.
During a Joint Task Force meeting led by President Luis Abinader, Raful also highlighted progress in the ongoing transformation of the National Police. She noted that police presence on the streets has increased from 13% to over 30% due to a new patrolling model. Authorities plan to expand this preventive patrolling model to an additional 20 departments by the end of 2026.
In Santiago, approximately 25 individuals also voluntarily surrendered to police during September and October for various crimes, including aggravated robbery and attempted homicide.
