Tamaulipas reports rising tortilla prices and livestock industry adjustments

In Tamaulipas, Mexico, several economic shifts are impacting local producers and consumers. In the southern region, including Tampico, Ciudad Madero, and Altamira, the price of tortillas has increased by one peso per kilogram, reaching 29 pesos. Industry representatives state the adjustment is due to rising operational costs, including corn, wages, social security, gas, and basic services.

In the livestock sector, producers in Tamaulipas have agreed to a voluntary 30-peso contribution per head of cattle to combat the screwworm plague. This measure, coordinated with the state government and the Regional Livestock Union, funds inspections and medications like ivermectin to maintain sanitary controls and facilitate future exports.

Additionally, in Matamoros, the Local Livestock Association continues to offer free procedures such as ear tagging, brand registration, and brucellosis vaccination. These services aim to help producers maintain accurate inventories and comply with regulations in anticipation of potential livestock export reactivations to the United States.
