Tamaulipas health officials boost food safety inspections amid extreme heat

The State Health Secretariat of Tamaulipas, through the Comisión Estatal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios (COEPRIS), has intensified verification operations at food‑producing establishments as the region faces soaring temperatures and the approaching canícula. Commissioner Mario Rebolledo Urcádiz said the effort, directed by health secretary Ricardo Gerardo Guerrero Morales, deploys 190 inspectors across 12 state coordinations to check refrigeration, handling and product samples in supermarkets, carnicerías, tortillerías and other venues. “Estamos atentos a todos los establecimientos que elaboran alimentos y que puedan representar un riesgo a la salud de la población,” he affirmed, adding that violations may lead to suspensions or corrective notices to prevent gastrointestinal illnesses.

Meteorological services forecast temperatures up to 40 °C in Tamaulipas, accompanied by strong to moderate rains, especially in the central and southern zones. The weather pattern, driven by a low‑pressure system and an incoming tropical wave, raises the risk of flooding, lightning and heat‑related health issues. Authorities advise residents to stay hydrated, limit exposure to the sun, and heed official alerts as the heat wave and rain persist over the weekend.
