Tamaulipas sees 5.2% economic growth as SME boost program expands

The state of Tamaulipas reported a 5.2% increase in gross domestic product in the first quarter of 2026, the strongest quarterly rise in recent years. Growth was broad‑based, with primary activities up 16.5%, secondary activities up 9.4% and tertiary activities up 1.1%, reflecting diversification across agriculture, manufacturing and services.

At the same time, the state government’s “Hecho en Tamaulipas” initiative, run by the Secretariat of Economy and overseen by Secretary Ninfa Cantú Deándar, provides micro, small and medium enterprises with advisory services, specialised training, assistance for trademark registration, barcode coding, laboratory partnerships, and participation in fairs and business missions. Companies that join the programme can earn the “Hecho en Tamaulipas” distinction, helping them market products regionally, nationally and internationally. The programme is part of Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya’s broader strategy, which includes major infrastructure projects such as the Puerto Norte of Matamoros, the interior port in Ciudad Victoria and the Altamira development zone, attracting about USD 21 billion across 174 projects.
