Tamaulipas Education Secretary Announces School Security Boost and Uniform Expansion

State Education Secretary Miguel Ángel Valdez García identified Reynosa, Matamoros, Victoria and Tampico as the municipalities with the highest risk of school robberies and said the state will increase State Guard patrols and issue a list of vulnerable schools for extra protection during the July vacation. In the same briefing he announced the expansion of the school‑uniform program from 23 to 32 municipalities, covering 632,000 students and backed by more than 30 million pesos, together with continued provision of school supplies and the federal Rita Cetina scholarship.

The State Anti‑Corruption Prosecutor Andrés Norberto García Repper reported that the specialized anti‑corruption office is operating with only about ten public prosecutors for more than 800 active cases, and that hiring and training new staff will take at least six months.

State Prosecutor Jesús Eduardo Govea Orozco said crime rates – including homicide, extortion, kidnapping and vehicle theft – continued to fall throughout 2026.

Heavy rains raised reservoir levels across central and southern Tamaulipas, with the Vicente Guerrero dam at 61 % capacity and the Emilio Portes Gil reservoir near full, improving water security for the region.

The Bienestar Social program began delivering water tanks (tinacos) to families in the border towns of Miguel Alemán and Camargo. The state DIF also handed out 3,215 scholarships to students in several municipalities, supporting continued school attendance.
