Ciudad Victoria water supply restored after aqueduct incident amid falling reservoir levels

State authorities in Tamaulipas ordered uninterrupted technical work on the second line of the Guadalupe Victoria Aqueduct to restore potable water to Ciudad Victoria, which was halted after an accident. Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya and Secretary of Public Works Pedro Cepeda Anaya coordinated with CONAGUA to complete repairs within 24 hours. The water system began a gradual re‑pressurization on Thursday, with some neighborhoods regaining service early in the day; full normalization will take several hours as the network is refilled. The second aqueduct line is about 60 % complete and will eventually double the city's supply capacity from 750 to 1,500 L/s.

Meanwhile, CONAGUA data show that total reservoir storage in Tamaulipas fell from 4,776.55 million m³ in February to 4,545.11 million m³ by 24 June, a drop of over 231 million m³. The Vicente Guerrero (Las Adjuntas) reservoir, which serves Ciudad Victoria, decreased from 66.3 % to 61 % of capacity but remains the largest source for the capital. Other dams showed mixed changes, with most still able to guarantee water supply.

Senator Olga Sosa met local business and social leaders in Valle Hermoso, emphasizing the need for modernizing irrigation and improving water use efficiency, linking the water‑supply challenges to broader regional development plans.
