Tamaulipas Shifts Beach Safety Responsibility to Municipalities
The Tamaulipas state tourism secretary, Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, announced that municipal governments will assume full responsibility for beach safety during the summer vacation period (July 11 – August 30). Municipalities will now handle permits, surveillance, and prevention of accidents, including regulating recreational vehicles such as jet‑skis and ATVs, and will enforce flag‑system warnings for swimmers.
An inter‑institutional committee for prevention, security and tourism planning was created for Playa Tesoro in Altamira, and similar consultative tourism councils are operating in Soto la Marina and other coastal towns. The measures are coordinated with federal authorities, the National Defense Secretariat, the National Guard and state security forces to improve patrols and road checkpoints around key access points.
