Tamaulipas advances with UN report, bridge expansion and tourism surge
The United Nations published the Second Voluntary Subnational Report for the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, highlighting a 42.4% drop in multidimensional poverty, a GDP above 764 billion pesos and progress on education and health indicators.
The state government announced the Nuevo Laredo III bridge project, which will widen the existing crossing from eight to ten lanes and add a parallel eight‑lane structure, creating an 18‑lane corridor that handles roughly half of Mexico’s cargo traffic.
Tourism figures show strong growth: Tampico recorded 426,797 visitors between 11 July and 2 August, a 31 % year‑on‑year increase, while the broader Tamaulipas region logged more than 1.8 million summer visitors, generating over 1.6 billion pesos in economic impact. The state also promoted its artisanal products at the Punto México exhibition in Mexico City.
In addition, a student from the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, Emiliano Bernal Martínez, was highlighted by The Walt Disney Company for his participation in the Disney Cultural Exchange Program in Orlando, underscoring the region’s push for international opportunities.
