El Gran Fondo Tampico sets participation record with 457 cyclists

The El Gran Fondo Tampico 2026 cycling competition set a new participation record in Tamaulipas, Mexico, attracting 457 cyclists. This figure marks a significant increase from the 331 participants recorded in 2025.

Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, the Secretary of Tourism for Tamaulipas, presented awards to the top finishers: Melania Gabriela Castañeda Villarreal in the women's category and Pablo Andrés Alarcón Cares in the men's category. The event drew participants from various Mexican states, including Mexico City, Jalisco, and Nuevo León, as well as international cyclists.

The growth of the event is part of a broader strategy by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya to position Tamaulipas as a national destination for high-performance sports and tourism. Upcoming regional initiatives include the Maratón Bicentenario 2026 in Matamoros and the Encuentro Nacional de Pueblos Mágicos in Tampico scheduled for late November 2026.
